First Camp Gränna

Close to the harbour of Gränna, on the shore of the Vättern Lake, you will find this friendly family campsite. You are staying here on a spaciously laid out campsite or in one of those typical Swedish holiday cottages. Although the campsite is fairly bare and has no demarcations between the spacious pitches, you will feel at home instantaneously. Just outside the campsite, the ferry departs for the beautiful island of Visingsö, an eminently suitable destination for a day trip on your bicycle.
Trekker hut or holiday cottageThe campsite, like many other Swedish campsites, has a fairly large number of trekker huts and holiday cottages. The former are quite basic with only cold running water, a basic kitchenette (with microwave) and communal sanitary facilities. The holiday cottages have a TV, a better equipped kitchen, hot and cold water and a private shower and toilet. In addition, there is a luxury holiday cottage. It is advisable to book a trekker hut/holiday cottage well in advance in the peak season.Castle on an islandAs mentioned above, Gränna is very popular, especially among Swedes. There are several reasons for this. First of all, the proximity of the island of Visingsö, in the middle of Lake Vättern. Here you can visit the ruins of the sixteenth-century Visingsborg castle, the former residency of the noble Brahe family.Candy canes in all coloursThe candy cane (polkagris in Swedish) is the second reason for Gränna's popularity. In 1859 Amalia Eriksson started with the production of these candy canes. This was such a hit that many others followed her. These days, you can buy candy canes on virtually each street corner in all kinds of shapes, sizes and colours.
